As the nights draw in and the temperature outside is dropping, it is really tempting to give swimming a miss. It’s easy to stay in a warm house when it’s cold & wet outside, but getting in a lovely, warm pool has many benefits for the body and mind.
- Continuing to swim during the winter can help your child to develop and maintain their swimming skills. If you don’t use it, you lose it.
- Continuing to swim during the winter allows your child to continue to build their water confidence. We often find that children who have a break from lessons during the winter months have a dip in confidence when they return in the spring.
- It is tempting to start or restart lessons just before a summer holiday, but skills take time to develop. So, starting your child’s lessons now allows them to have time to develop and practice their skills. Summer swimmers are made in the winter!
- You can’t catch a cold from swimming in the winter or having wet hair. In fact, swimming in the winter months can help to boost your immunity levels and help you ward off those winter coughs and colds.
- The bad weather and darker evenings can mean that your child might now have less opportunity to exercise. Swimming isn’t weather dependant and is the perfect way for children to exercise during the winter and have indoor, active fun with their friends.
So, if you already swim with us, keep swimming. If you haven’t started your child’s lessons with us yet, now is a great time to start.
