We want you to get the most out of your time in the pool with your little one. Here are some tips to help get your swimming journey off to the best start:
- Babies can be taken into the water from birth – they do not need to have completed their injections
- Going to a class enables you to relax & enjoy the experience. Swim teachers are trained to understand the needs of both parent and baby
- Any pool you choose should be heated to over 30. °C If you can’t find a warm pool, use a neoprene wrap that acts as a little wet suit.
- Babies with a chest, ear or eye infection should avoid swimming until it has cleared and no child should swim with anything infectious.
- Babies won’t enjoy swimming if they are hungry or tired. Give your baby some milk immediately before or after the class. Babies on solids should have a light snack one hour before swimming.
- Swimming nappies need to be work and should be a good fit around the waist and the legs. Our neoprene swim nappy is perfect.
- Bring a changing mat to lay on the floor poolside, to help get your baby in to the pool
- Focus on your baby and stay relaxed. Sing songs, play games and remember to smile!
- When your baby gets out of the water, they may be tired, cold and hungry! Have a hooded towel ready to wrap around their head and a hat for their head for going outside.
- Enjoy the peace and quiet when you get home as your baby has a wonderful sleep!
