A Reading family has shared how baby swimming sessions have helped improve their daughter’s wellbeing after a difficult start to life.
Gwen Hind, aged one, was born with a hernia and has experienced ongoing issues with digestion and trapped wind throughout her early months. Her mother, Elizabeth Hind says the symptoms often left her uncomfortable and unsettled.
After introducing weekly swimming lessons with Puddle Ducks North Hampshire and Reading, the family noticed a marked improvement.
Elizabeth commented: “Swimming has made a significant difference, Gwen used to struggle with discomfort almost daily, but being in the water seems to help her relax. She is now calmer and sleeping better.”
The buoyancy and gentle movement involved in swimming are thought to help relax abdominal muscles and encourage natural movement, which may ease digestive discomfort in some babies.
Lizzie Moore, owner of Puddle Ducks North Hampshire and Reading said the benefits of early swimming can extend beyond physical development, commenting: “It is always encouraging to see young children becoming more comfortable in the water. Activities like this can support bonding and help babies feel more at ease in new environments.”
Health professionals often suggest gentle physical activity and sensory experiences for infants experiencing digestive issues. In recent years, baby swimming classes have increased in popularity as parents look for supportive ways to improve their child’s comfort and wellbeing.
The Hind family hope that sharing their experience will encourage other parents to consider exploring activities that may help their child.
