Puddle Ducks Charity Pyjama Week - October 2019

Your Pyjama Party invitiation from Puddle Ducks!!

Personal survival and water safety are at the very heart of our swimming lessons, especially during our Pyjama Weeks!!

Three times a year we hold a Pyjama Week, where all our swimmers attend lessons in their pyjamas and learn vital lifesaving and personal survival skills. Our Charity Pyjama Week starts with a splash on Monday 14th October where all our swimmers also help to raise money for some fantastic local charities. (For our West Gate School venue, your Pyjama Week will start on Monday 21st October!)

We can’t wait to welcome all our swimmers to participate in the PJs for one week only! But why are we getting ready for bed, rather than getting ready to swim?

Why wear Pyjamas?

Wearing pyjamas during swimming lessons is about more than just having fun. Most accidents will happen while your child is fully clothed, so Pyjama Week will give a great indication of what this will feel like. It will help them realise that they will feel heavier but they will still be able to do the important life-saving manoeuvres like kicking to the surface and reaching for the side.

Who are we supporting?

  • Our first charity is Zephyr’s:  Located within Nottingham City Hospital, Zephyr's Nottingham provides much needed nurturing care and support for bereaved families following the loss of a pregnancy, baby or child of any age, with counselling, drop in sessions and activities, and open doors for parents, grandparents, and others in the family, as well as staff. They welcome everyone, regardless of how recent or long ago their loss, in to their warm and homely centre.

  • Our next charity is the Emily Harris Foundation. This fantastic charity supports the work of the neonatal unit at King’s Mill Hospital in Mansfield. It supports families through the provision of Welcome Packs (containing nappies, cotton wool, blanket and bibs), meal vouchers, transport costs and much more!

It also supports staff within the King's Mill Neonatal Unit who wish to undertake further training and where the funding is not able to be supported by the NHS.

  • Our final chosen charity for Charity Pyjama Week is Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People in Loughborough.

As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, Rainbows is a place where life-limited children and their families can find care and support. The incredible team of people who work there help relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, support parents and siblings through their bereavements and care for children until the end.

We are lucky enough to hire their pool for our classes every Monday so we know what amazing work they do!

Bring your favourite Pyjamas and be prepared to make a big splash to support some amazing causes. We can’t wait for the fun to begin!
