Florence first joined Puddle Ducks when she was just two years old. Like many young children, she wasn't initially confident in the water and didn't even want to put her face in. However, with the support of her teachers, plenty of encouragement and lots of fun along the way, Florence gradually developed the confidence and skills that would become the foundation of an extraordinary swimming journey.
Reflecting on her time at Puddle Ducks, Florence said:
"I started at Puddle Ducks when I was only two. I loved going to the sessions, it was lots of fun. I remember getting a sticker every time I went – I still have the collection now.
"When I first started, I didn't even want to put my face in the water. But the teachers helped me to grow in confidence and turn me into a great swimmer.
"Swimming is now my favourite sport. I am a member of Cirencester Swim Club and train four times a week. I love going to galas and have recently qualified to represent the county.
"So, thank you so much Puddle Ducks for helping me get better at swimming and to love the sport – from not putting my face in the water to representing Gloucestershire at a county gala."
Today, Florence is a dedicated competitive swimmer, training regularly, competing in galas and proudly representing Gloucestershire. Her journey demonstrates just how far confidence, perseverance and a love of swimming can take a child.
The photographs Florence shared with us tell a wonderful story too. From proudly collecting her Puddle Ducks 5m, 10m and 25m distance badges to standing with her medals and county kit, they capture years of hard work, determination and achievement.
Stories like Florence's are a reminder that swimming is about so much more than learning a skill. It's about building confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of being in the water.
We couldn't be prouder of everything Florence has achieved and look forward to following her future successes. Congratulations, Florence, from all of us at Puddle Ducks Oxfordshire – you're an inspiration to the next generation of swimmers!
