Level 5
Let's get skillful!
Our Elite Swim Academy is exclusively for swimmers progressing from Swim Academy Level 4. We don't accept direct entrants into Level 5 but we will assess swimmers who are new to the programme in Level 4 to determine whether they are ready for Elite Swim Academy. At this level, it is all about developing technical excellence and stamina.
The key learning outcomes from Level 5 are:
- Has performed a horizontal stationary scull on the back
- Has performed a feet first sculling action for 5 metres whilst horizontal on the back, no aids
- Has achieved a 75m distance Front Crawl swim, to include at least six rhythmical breaths
- Is able to swim 10 metres wearing clothes
- Is able to swim 10 metres Breaststroke
- Is able to swim Butterfly to include a least three rhythmical breaths
- Is able to perform a handstand and hold for a minimum of three seconds
- Has demonstrated that they are able to perform correct in-water stroke starts and correct stroke turns
We also award the STA Advanced Water Safety Series (Bronze) in Level 5.

Level 6
Let's be awesome!
Level 6 is the final level of Elite Swim Academy from which your child will graduate and go on to whatever the next stage of their swimming journey is. Many of our swimmers go on to clubs or even take up other water sports with the knowledge and confidence that technically excellent swimming is second nature!
The key learning outcomes from Level 6 are:
- Is able to sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into Backstroke
- Is able to sink, push off on side from the wall, glide, kick and rotate into Front Crawl
- Can swim 25 metres Backstroke
- Is able to swim 15 metres Breaststroke to include at least four rhythmical breaths
- Is able to swim 10 metres Butterfly
- Has performed a sitting dive
- Has demonstrated that they can swim 100 metres, using a minimum of three different strokes
- Is able to perform an Individual Medley swim over any distance performed with correct starts and turn
We also award the STA Advanced Water Safety Series (Silver) in Level 6.
